My car's in the workshop on extended sick leave, unable to apply a couple of software fixes. Now been told it may be a faulty control module. I've been told it occasionally happens but it does sound a bit worrying. Has anyone else come across this.

One of the updates apparently relates to 'front camera' - odd, because AFAIK I don't have a camera (it's the basic Ultra Sport model),so I assume it's just a generic bit of software common across all models.

Software updates on cars... how many times have you known software updates on a PC to be unreliable? It’s a daft idea and only going to get worse...

Hello there - FYI , All B9 A4s in the UK have a camera, it's at the top of the windscreen and used for pre-sense emergency braking which is standard in the UK amongst other things - Also yes, there is a well known update to the front camera that has been around a year or so now ( Don't ask me what it does!) I guess this has gone wrong in someway in your car.

Looking at the job sheet, there were two 'updates' - 90K9, which re-sets the temperature range for the front camera heater, and 90K2, which updates software for the instrument cluster. It was the second update that failed, and required a replacement dashboard cluster, which required a few days to-and-fro between the dealer and the factory. Glad I managed to slip that in before the warranty expires next month!

A bit of Googling reveals that all 90K2 does is correct the displayed time until next service is due.
