    Hi,

I've got a Mk6 Golf in the family that is showing corrosion on the front arches similar in the way that the MK5's went. The car was taken to the dealer who then took the relevent paint depths and pictures of the vehicle and sent off the paperwork to VW. Now the warranty has been refused. What I find confusing is that the retailer told me that VW won't honour the warranty as it's a 10 year warranty + 2 years of goodwill. Doesn't say that anywhere regarding this on their website or vehicle handbook as they clearly state 12 years.

Following on from this we got in contact with customer services who then put us on hold and rang the retailer. The reasons given to customer service is that the corrosion has started due to the foam padding between the arch. We feel as though we are being messed around as the foam is a manufacturing defect and is clearly documented as the reason why the Mk5 rusted and VW have replaced the wings on those cars.

We are very disappointed with this response and particularly with the retailer who gave two different reasons to ourselves then VW customer services. Can anyone please advice on how we should proceed from here? Hopefully someone's had dealings with this process.

The warranty for a defect like that is actually 3 years, the 12 year anti perforation warranty is for corrosion “perforating” from the inside out, not creeping around from the inside out, this was a 10 year old Passat and was outside in so they would not cover it

On the initial assessment the body clinic didn't mention anything about this and did remark that it's starting to corrode in the way of the Mk5 and VW had cured it on the MK6 variant but our car was showing the same signs so he would send of the paperwork. I've seen endless of other Golfs albeit Mk5's over the net and in person with similar corrosion one being a 55 plate that had ninth front wings replaced in 2017.
