Going back to my question about car hacking, it seems curious that this bit is missing a line:

Compare it with the one from https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...h-air-flow-UK:

    Code:

You're missing the "Address 17" line. Not sure if it supports my theory .

this was what we were trying to do.

    1. Select Control Module 17 “Instruments” in VAG-COM/VCDS
    2. Go to Long Coding
    3. Go to Byte 0 > Bit 4-7
    4. Change whatever location you have in there (Normally England) to “Rest of World”
    5. Click Exit and then DO IT
    6. Un-Plug your VCDS and get ready to start playing with your DIS.
    7. On your DIS go to your settings and do the following:
      • Untick “Alt. Speed DIS”
      • Still in settings, go to MFD Data
      • Tick Digital Speedo
      • Click Go Back and then Go to Units
      • Choose Consump./dist.
      • Scroll down and select mpg (UK), mi

Once you’ve done all the above you’ll then have removed the annoying KPH display in the bottom part of your DIS / MFD and gained a nice Digital mph speedo.

    So:

    1. You have no doubts that the car is entirely legit?
    2. When did it go wrong? Did you see "England" like it suggested, or something else that might be another warning that the cluster was already "uniquely coded"?

Not much more I can do from here. Hopefully someone will come and take a look.

A lot of the errors that appeared between scans are low voltage warnings. Did anything strange happen with lights, radio, etc while you were trying to adjust things?

Curious. Sounds like something shorted out while you wrre working, or one of the control units went haywire and left soething trickling charge away.

Had you been having trouble with the battery, so a low charge might have messed up the recoding?

Optimistically I'd try jump leads from running engine on another car after trying to find any shorts. Then fire up VCDS (even your friends) to see if it is happier with full voltage. Then see if all modules can be found, and check coding of each.

If that goes well see if current battery has survived being discharged by having a long run on A roads where you can be reached by a friend if car stops for some reason to try and top battery up. Don't turn it off until home, and keep jump leads handy as once discharged batteries can get very tempremental. Once happy car is behaving then changing it may be a sensible maintenance task anyway.
