I have taken a screenshot of this to show the garage next week Crasher. Thaankyou for your help and we will see exactly what they have fitted.

Well Crasher you were utterly correct with your diagnosis. I passed on all your info to the garage and it became apparent the EGR fitted was a overhauled item hence the original cheaper price.

So i insisted we went to TPS for a Gen VAG item and hey presto no more fault. So the morale to the story here was going to VW would have been the best approach considering how much money was spent. The thing here was the replacement item tested fine on the car, everything worked as it should but and its a big but for whatever reason these items just dont work when fitted to the car?? It would be interesting to see what actually caused these to fail??

The one plus thing to all of this is the mileage on the car has been kept down as i used the garages courtesy cars a lot. And the other is an ECU that was badly corroded and could have potentially led to major problems down the line. Also now due to the current pandemic and the devastation its had on my industry (Aviation/Airlines) i will be keeping the car for at least another year so i know at least these two items will be good.

Every day is a school day and thankyou again Crasher. Much appreciated.

When these started failing about 5 years ago we bought the first one from ECP which was an exchange and it lasted a week. As compensation ECP replaced it with an OE Pierburg and that didn’t even work long enough to get the car off the lift... We then fitted a genuine one and we still look after this car and it is fine. Having said that, last year we had to do one we had done three years previously with a genuine unit and VW UK were not interested in helping so the customer had to pay for a new one and I felt a bit aggrieved for her.
