Mainly I'm asking about my 2010 Allroad Tdi first registered 2011 and purchased by me in 2014. It's been a joy and a delight to drive, hasn't seriously seen the repair shop apart from some front wheel bearings and the usual consumables. It's going to get a new rear wiper motor this week, however, and of course I'm starting to think of possible bills ahead.

Of course, readers will have different responses, depending on their need for utter reliability, or dislike of surprises, or desire for the newest tech. I only do 8k a year, so fuel costs are not a big issue for me, and I don't drive into Congestion Zones so my filthy dirty diesel (just joking) is not a problem.

    Any thoughts?

I had a 2002 Passat Estate (1.9 tdi Sport). It was disappointing in that it had a few problems but otherwise was a good car and I kept it for six years and sold it to a colleague (complete with new diff replaced by VW).

Three years later I was in it and wondering to myself why I sold it as it looked mint!

Last year, 2019, it gave up with almost 280,000 miles on the clock.

Guy who bought it did most of the repairs himself so it was cheap motoring. So it can be done. Not that I’d do it mind!

If you are happy with the car keep it - until you are either unhappy with it or it becomes a financial drain.

Same situation and same car. Unless I give up on car 'ownership' and move over to rental on demand (a distinct possibility and the sensible economic decision) I'm going to drive mine until it breaks. It will hit 100k miles this year and it's driving better than ever. I only use it for long m-way trips and it's a very relaxed way to eat up miles with no effort or stress. I've got a paintwork failure where the lacquer is peeling off the basecoat so it's probably not worth anything like what it should be worth and I'm in no hurry to invest in another Diesel as someone living inside the M25.
