    HI

I have just bought a jan 2004 registered A4 1.9 tdi sport 6 speed AVF engine code with a 133K on the clock. The car has a good history but the cambelt really needs replacing as it was last done at 60k miles 7 years ago. I have done cambelts on the old ford 80's zetec, landrover tdi engies, Isuzu 3.1 engines and 306's but have not done one of these before.

as its the later engine i dont think it has the hydraulic tensioner & I have ordered a haynes manual

can anyone advise on the best belts, tensioners e.g INA etc / I see there is a locking kit available for little money around £20 that appears to lock the toothed pullys etc

are there any things i need to look out for e.g on the landrover tdi the front crank pully bolt needs a crank locking tool to remove as its torqued up so dammed tight

    any advice appriciated thanks

On the petrol engines, the aux drive pulley is held on to the crank pulley by 4 X Allen bolts, no need to remove the crank pulley unless you're replacing the front crank seal.
If so you can use 19mm triple hex and a breaker bar, rest the end on top of the passenger side chassis leg, a quick flick of the key on the starter will have that bolt loose
