A freind of mine as a 2001 1.8 225 convertable and he had been getting a flat battery which he figured was due to the colder weather. Now with a new battery a few weeks ago it is still draining in 2 -3 days. He has had it looked at, no fault code, no detectable drop across the battery. Even when flat fires up with a booster pack and will recharge on a run. Garage (not a VAG specialist) is now suggesting water in electrics from a roof leak but the interior appears dry and the cabin does not suffer from condensation.
    Any ides?

Check the obvious such as interior light staying on, boot light staying on, glove box staying on, 3 days is a pretty big current drain . If you don't find anything on the interior light's, next is to latch the bonnet then disconnect the battery earth post and connect an amp meter between the earth post on the battery and the the earth cable, wait for 2 hour's so all control units go to sleep and read the amp drain anything more than 30 milliamps and you have a drain, if you have you can then check across each fuse for a draw or even simpler remove one fuse at a time whilst watching the amp meter if the current drops you have now found what circuit the draw is on. Once you know which fuse removal gives you no draw you then read the current flow diagram for the offending fuse and see what is connected on that circuit, then start disconnecting each consumer in the circuit till you get a zero or close to zero draw. There are other ways to do this than what I have mentioned such as reading potential difference on the earth side of each consumer but this is the simplest way. In my experience it is most likely anything to do with the 12 volt socket or radio or any aftermarket additions fitted to the vehicle that cause a drain .

Thanks for that guide to a structured fault find. I'll see where it takes us.
