    Hi,

    I've recently bought a 2014 Leon 1.6 TDI w/ 125k.

A few days ago when driving in slow traffic I went to drop it into first and accidentally put it in reverse(!) It made a grinding noise and I realised what I had done immediately so I didn't come off the clutch at all until I'd got it into first. Now, every once in a while (probably 30% of the time) it grinds when going into reverse, mainly first thing in the morning or when reverse hasn't been used for a while. Once it's in reverse, it'll come out and go in again perfectly fine until after the next journey (if that makes sense). I thought most cars had systems to stop you going into a gear not suitable for the engine's speed.

I'm just wondering if I've damaged the gearbox? The clutch does have a really high bite and needs replacing soon, so could i just be related to this? I've been driving automatics for years so pretty clueless with manuals.

    Thanks in advance.
