Hello everyone, some advice would be appreciated. My Passat has started to hunt when driving. Also have noticed smoke from rear and also loud noise when accelerating ( like a loud sucking air noise ). Would this be the start of the turbo going. I have just noticed the hose from the air out of the turbo has about an inch split in it. Obviously this wouldnt help the car but would it be part of the problem and if so could it have damaged the turbo.

    Cheers

AVB, AWX, AWF, the engine type code. Yes that pipe splitting is a standard problem. Guessing at a 2003 AWX, the hose is VAG part number 3B0 145 828 G but are a daft £146.50, as it is such a common failure they are easy to buy aftermarket for a fraction of that.

Cheers Crasher. It's a 2004 passat. Would that split actually cause those problems or similar?

Very much so, when it splits they pump black smoke, even a tiny air leak causes problems.
