Glow Plug light is flashing with engine fault code message - also loss of power.

had scan done by AA patrol, below are the 2 error codes:

P040300- Exhaust gas recirculation solenoid valve faulty operation

P046C00 - exhaust recirc. position sensor signal improbable

is this likely to be a costly fix and where do i go from here?

A massive problem with the CR TDI engines but especially the CAYC 1.6. It is an awful job to do, the unit is bolted across the back of the block above the drive shaft (which has to come out and the DPF has to be disconnected and moved to one side), typically we can turn one around in about six hours but that is six feet up in the air, doing one on your back doesn't bear thinking about. Don't whatever you do you a non genuine unit of any description, they are notorious for going wrong and although the supplier will replace it, they won't usually cover the labour. The genuine part is part number 03L 131 512 DQ and they retail at £359.35. These things are SO prone to failure we have already had to replace ones we fitted three years ago and VW do not want to know about any form of warranty after 2 years. It is also very easy to break the water transfer pipe as it is made of plastic and gets brittle with age, this runs from the back of the engine, over the gearbox and around the front of the engine, it takes nearly as long to do as the EGR valve itself!

    thank you for the reply.

what if it only needs cleaning after the live data readings confirm all the components in the EGR are working as intended?

the fault codes refer to a solenoid valve and position sensor to be faulty?

Spend roughly ten hours removing, stripping, cleaning, rebuilding and reinstalling to find it does not work... possibly bearable if you are doing it for yourself but if you are charging someone to do it, that would be irresponsible.

If I was you I would just get the EGR mapped out. A friend of mine has gone down this route albeit it on a 2.0 CR140. Cost him around £50 and he no longer has any lights flashing or the car going into limp mode.
