    Hello,

Got a 2015 1.4 110kw gas 6 speed manual, 99k km on the odo and I love it, apart from a couple problems:

    1st problem:
The clutch, when it is cold feels very 'grabby'.
Grabby = just before motor speed and gearbox speeds match, the clutch just grabs and pulls the car forwards, without moving clutch pedal.
Main problem is the car would start jerking if I would try to start moving faster in 1st gear.
It feels like, the clutch would grab, compress the cushions/mounts (don't know how they're called in english) of the gearbox/motor and then it would get loose, and then it would grab again...

Just heat the clutch a bit and the problem is gone... This is strange.
I guess its mainly worn out/overheated clutch with bent plates or whatever and I am planning to replace it, no problems with that.
All engine/gearbox mounts seems good, inspected at the service.

    2nd problem:
The worst thing - sometimes, and only sometimes it is hard to get the reverse gear in. It doesn't grind or anything, it goes half way and it is hard to get the last step (too hard)... Didn't try it without car off...
Most of the time its efortless.
Could it be that some of the gear teeth are bad ? Should I inspect/rebuild the gearbox together with clutch change ? Or could it be just a linkage missalingment or something like that ?
Does the reverse have syncros or something like that ?

Any opinions and ideas are welcome, glad to join this forum.

I think you will find a new clutch and DMF deals with both issues.

I agree with Crasher. I believe that earlier Passats than yours had a recall due to a DMF issue? If you Google vw dual mass flywheel you will find lots of info, including videos where you can hear the symptoms.

    Will a 1.4 petrol have a DMF?

    I can’t imagine it would

You can buy one: Flywheel for VW Passat B8 Variant (3G5, CB5) 1.4 TSI (150 HP from 2014 ). Whether that means they were all fitted with one I don't know.

EDIT: that link says it's for a DSG, so maybe the manual doesn't have one.

That site just keeps coming back to braking and suspension parts, can’t find any mention of a flywheel never mind a dual mass flywheel!

When I click the link I posted I get this page:

    flywheel.jpg

Ah but... then I see it's for a DSG, so maybe the manual doesn't have a DMF.

It doesn’t open that page for me, but as you say that refers to DSG - perhaps Dual Clutch gearboxes need a DMF for some reason but I doubt the manual requires one

IT depends on the engine code, a front wheel drive type type 3C with a CZEA engine has a DMF under part number 04E 105 266 H but if it is a CZDA it is solid.
