    If the cams are bent is it possible to just take the head off and fit new cams with the timing moved to the right spot?

    I don't think you will bend the cams, they tend to break. It will be the valves that will probably be bent. That would be a cylinder head off job.
    If it was me, I would get a new cam belt (local factors) and fit it, then try turning it over by a spanner on the crank pulley.
    If there are four compressions and no unusual noises, try to start it.
    You might just be lucky!

    Did you manage to check the timing before taking off the old belt to see if the belt had slipped? It probably did as you wouldn't have lost power otherwise.
