    Hello,

New to this site, I own a 2007 MK5 GT TDI (140). For a while It sometimes turns over for 2/3 seconds then starts, sometimes starts straight away. Yesterday it would not start at all but would just keep turning over. i managed to get a push and get it started and it has been starting fine since as well as this morning (still at times turns over for a few seconds then starts).

I took it to the garage yesterday, it was showing codes for glow plugs and showing 'camshaft' with no signal/response

any idea what it could be?

    Thanks

    Zak

If cam sensor is faulty it will use crank instead, but consequently it will turn over for longer.

Ah okay Thank you , so cam sensor could have caused the problem i had yesterday when it would just turn over for ages but not start? I have also noticed poor performance upon accelerating, power is not there as it use to be

sorry but i know minimal on the cam sensor and crank, but think I will get the cam sensor replaced

You could have three or four issues stacking up here, glow plugs are vital in this weather, we had a Tourag 5 cylinder in last week with terrible starting, all five were burnt out and a new set cured it. Also the cranking rpm can be too low, you check this by disconnecting the head harness and then cranking the engine over whilst using a diagnostic system to view the speed, it must be a minimum of 280rpm. If you had four faulty glow plugs, a slow cranking starter and a failed G40 cam position sensor then it could easily add up to your problem.

I reccomend changing your glow plugs before there gone, I just snapped my first one ever in 27 year's. No4 on a Porsche Cayenne, same engine as Touareg v6 Tdi. Oh dear never mind at least I can kind of get a drill in there.

The CR TDI V6 is a sketch, when we do them at least on snaps and it is not uncommon for all six to snap... hate them.
