    Hello all,

I’ve bought a mk5 1.9, the flywheel isn’t rattling and the clutch bites fine, however there’s about 2 inches of play/slack in the clutch at the top where it doesn’t do anything and the biting point is very close to the floor.
The clutch is slightly on the heavy side as well to press after the slack, i’d say slightly heavy not really heavy. Not fussed about that though as it’s fine with me

    Can this be adjusted?

Is there something that can be done with the pedal, seen 1 or 2 posts about some plastic breaking on the pedal, or to push my foot under the clutch to clip the rod back in place?, is there such a thing to do on it?

or an issue with the master/slave cylinder

Something is definitely up, as i know they have some play at the top but this seems excessive

I don’t think the clutch is going, that’s going off previous experiences with them and my mate who has a leon has a similar issue with the biting point really low and slack at the top of the clutch and its heavier than mine and hes just put a brand new luk clutch and flywheel in

Hard clutch pedal means worn out pressure plate and/or clutch cylinders. My MK5 had hard clutch pedal and clutch pedal vibration when I bought it. After some time the clutch pedal started getting stuck on the floor, so I changed one of the clutch cylinders (the one on the gearbox i think) which fixed the problem and the clutch pedal went 20% softer. After some time the clutch plate started slipping (it had 270.000km, the original clutch onboard), so I had to replace the whole clutch kit together with dmf, from sachs. The pedal is now very soft, the gearbox works like new, very smooth gear changes, but the vibration on the clutch pedal is still there, just like before. The vibration on the clutch pedal is there on numerous VW models and nobody seems to know what really causes it. Some think its the DMF, but I have a new one and its still there, some vw owners have the clutch pedal vibration on brand new cars and the *********** say its fine like that.
