One day it drove fine. The next trip the power steering was jerking and whining. The fluid was below add and had a yellow frothy appearance. I filled it to full and it had less whining and jerking but not yet normal. After 1 min. I checked the reservoir and all the fluid I had just put in had blown out around the tight lid. It only has 68k miles. Strange? Solutions?

Certainly not a rack prone to failure, any visible leaks around the boots?

The rack works ok. The pump is whining even when the fluid is full. The fluid is frothy though. My mk3 tdi doesn't have frothy fluid. The fluid literally squirted out from the tightly closed lid. It emptied and left a mess in the engine compartment. It just passed a safety check at Eurofix Franklin tn.

I would start with a new pump and a system flush.

I might should do that. What's strange is it was working fine the day before. I don't get the mechanics of back pressure in the line. Maybe a seal blew out?
