    Any joy? there seem to be a spate of threads re door opening problems, so it'd be handy to know if flicking the door into unlocked condition is feasible.

    Well sort of !
    recieved the new lock and could see what you meant by moving the small plastic part, but the dead one one the car is either siezed or it lockes itself in the lock position.
    Managed to get two of the spline screws out by opening the back door just enough to see them, this gives a little movement on the lock,
    you can see some of the small screws that hold the lock together undo the ones you can see and prize the lock in two eventually after some serious wiggiling the lock will give in,
    if like me you are crouched in the front footwell, at this point the door opens and you fall out onto the drive
    All in nearly three day on and off
    Thanks VAG-Abound for all your help and encouragement, but it looks to me as the only way to get these off is to destroy them.
