My car used to work as it should , remote central locking has stopped working so I tried the usual change the remote battery and it seemed to start working but it has now stopped again . Today it has been in to Audi main dealers for a diagnostic and they have said that it is the instrument cluster / immobiliser that is faulty and the part is 1700 quid plus vat . Is there any way I can get a second hand instrument cluster / immobiliser and get it coded to my car ????? Any help gratefully received.

eBay and someone with the proper VW computer connected to VW to code it. I would get a second opinion first as main dealers like to just change things.

Is it going to be cheaper to send it to somewhere like ecutesting to get it repaired , or risk buying a second hand one and coding it though ?????

Never had any success sending them away unless I just picked the wrong firms. Sounds pretty rare. What faults came up on diagnostics?

ECU testing are near to me, one of my staff used to work there, one of my trade friends was in tonight and we discussed him, I won’t go anywhere near them and my friend has had to resort to going to his house and knocking on his front door to get parts back... BBA Reman are in liquidation, AC Tronics have let me down on a number of occasions... all these ECU testing and repair companies are charlatans... avoid the lot of them.

Ha not just me then! I did see one on an episode of Wheeler Dealers where mike took a TT cluster to get the LCD refloated but they have probably gone bust!

The central locking is performed by the convenience unit behind the glove box and the immobiliser is in the dash.
