Third TDI model in outstandingly cost effective A6 range offers lowest tax liability and running costs in its sector
  • New A6 2.7 TDI V6 joins 2.0 TDI (140PS) and 3.0TDI V6 (225PS) models to create the most advanced TDI range in the executive saloon sector
  • Available to order now in SE and S line trim priced at £26,330 OTR and £29,050 OTR for first deliveries in December 2004
  • Optional adaptive air suspension available from next month
  • Compact, lightest in class V6 unit with common rail fuel injection featuring advanced Piezo injectors
  • 2,698cc, 180PS from 3,300rpm, 380Nm from 1,400rpm, 0-62mph in 8.1 secs, 141mph, 41.5mpg, CO2 181g/km
  • Lowest tax liability in its specific sector, lowest running costs, highest residual value percentage (according to Emmox Carcost)
A new 2.7 TDI engine promising 41mpg economy combined with class leading tax efficiency, running costs and predicted residual values* joins the A6 Saloon range this month. Available to order now priced from £26,330 OTR, the new A6 2.7 TDI models feature the most advanced diesel engine technology available, including a unique Piezo injection system, and from next month will offer the option of adaptive four-wheel air suspension for the first time in the segment.

The new lightest in class, six-cylinder common rail 2.7 TDI unit with 180PS is essentially a downsized version of the all-new 3.0 TDI, widely regarded as one of the most supremely refined diesel units ever created and currently powering A6 and A8 saloon models. Its close relative delivers its maximum 180PS output between 3,300 and 4,250rpm and 380Nm between 1,400 and 3,300rpm, giving the A6 2.7 TDI SE with six-speed manual gearbox the potential to accelerate from rest to 62mph in 8.1 seconds and to reach a top speed of 141mph. Predictably for a TDI, this strong performance is delivered efficiently and economically, with up to 41.5mpg possible (on the combined cycle) and impressively low CO2 output of 181g/km (depending on specification).

Efficiency and performance have been maximised through the use of the latest turbocharger technology combined with a highly sophisticated common rail fuel injection system with piezo injectors. Featuring a separate high-pressure pump and rail for each row of cylinders, the system permits up to five separate amounts of fuel to be injected on each working stroke, at an injection pressure of 1600 bar, 250 bar more than with previous common rail systems. This helps to achieve the best possible fuel/air mixture and an even more efficient combustion process.

This advanced technology ensures full compliance with EU4 emissions regulations without the use of a particulate filter, and also helps the A6 2.7 TDI to benefit from a lower tax liability than any other prestige six-cylinder TDI executive saloon. According to the latest information from Emmox Carcost, this new version also offers the lowest running costs in its specific sector, and will also achieve the best value retention over 3 years or 60,000 miles.

Air suspension
In common with all A6 Saloon models, the A6 2.7 TDI will from next month offer the extra cost option of adaptive air suspension. Based on the system fitted to the A8 luxury saloon since launch, the air suspension set-up features continuously variable damping to suit prevailing road conditions, and also offers the option of four pre-determined suspension settings which can be selected by the driver via the Multi Media Interface System (MMI).

The A6 2.7 TDI will be available in both SE and S line trim. SE specification includes 16-inch alloy wheels, remote control central locking, electronic climate control, electric front and rear windows and mirrors, cruise control, a 160-watt sound system with glove box-mounted CD player and the MMI Basic Plus control system with 6.5-inch monitor.

S line models add 18-inch alloy wheels, unique S line sports suspension, sports seats with black leather/Speed cloth combination upholstery, a sports steering wheel and special S line grille and interior badging. An additional S line exterior styling package is also available for S line models only at an extra cost of £1,100 (£875 for 4.2 quattro versions), bringing an exclusive S line front bumper and grille design, headlamp washers and a unique rear bumper treatment with painted diffuser.
