having just bought an r line 190 2.0 with a new shiny mot i am stunned to find the dip headlight bulb hanging out, with only the rubber cover holding it in ? so what holds it in ? is it a spring clip or what ?
can anyone point me to a diagram or drawing ?

May be the same idea as one of my cars, a Skoda Rapid, the bulb is just like a press fit in the lamp and just grips the sides of the light opening.. I thought it was a daft idea...

damned if i know frankly - i will take a look tomorrow hopefully but was hoping a diagram might be somewhere on here.
seems your right, a strange push fit, consulted my war and peace passat manual, easily the most comprehensive owners manual i have ever seen... and lo.. push up and in and push down seems to do it, clever but a metal to metal push fit will cause tears one day buy hey ho. Stranger still was the lack of help on this huge forum. I am well aware its a simple silly question, a noob question but given its probably known by 50% of members who have owned a vw for more than my 2 weeks still surprising. I first joined here back in 2008 when the wife bought a passat and i needed info, time goes by and nothing fell off that i needed help with until now.
