Are the catch actuators repairable? I have recently put a new catch and connected the actuator arm that had previously (prev owner) disconnected.

For a while I was able to open the tailgate by using the boot handle but now it doesn’t seem to work. I can hear noises when I use the handle so I know electric power is present.

I have taken the actuator off and can manually push the piston in and I can see the big wheel turning through the opaque plastic cover.

l guess this means there is a problem with the ‘worm drive’?

I can’t see any obvious means of opening the unit up without trashing the case? Has anybody had one of these apart? Any point in doing so?

    If relevant, I have a 2003 A4 Avant Estate B6.

Well, the ones I am seeing are about £28?

Anyway, I warmed the actuator (A) up and prized off the casing.

The problem seems to be that the A opens once and then runs out of puff if used again in a short space of time. Maybe the return mechanism?

I bought one by mistake from amazon for around £10 I think. In my garage somewhere lol. Kudos if you fix it but I’d seriously just throw a new one in.

It’s working better than it did (having smeared the moving parts in silicone grease) but it’s not working for more than two opens without having a rest. I’ll put it back on pro tem and get online and have a look for a replacement.

Oh well, I tried. And failed. Again.
