    Hi all.

Have a car which had the cambelt and tensioner replaced 7000 miles back but the water pump wasn't so I have just changed it.

Only thing is how to do the correct setting on the tensioner?

It is a GT357.37 SNR TNT (see image)

    OEM 045109243C and
    045109243A

If I reset it to the same position as per the photos I took before releasing it, it doesn't give it enough tension.

Does anyone know where I can locate the technical spec to set this correctly?

Does no-one know if the needle pointing to the 8.00 O'clock position is the correct setting?

Doing further research. It seems these tensioners should never be re-used.

I'll be buying a new belt and tensioner.

I was just about to say that, they don’t respond well to being reused and neither does the tensioner stud, please replace it or you may end up unhappy....

Been away for the last 10 days but now the parts have arrived so I want to get this finished.

I did do a search but couldn't find a definitive explanation regarding the final tensioner settiing.

I have seen written that for some, the correct setting is that the pointer be facing the 8 O'clock position, although the one being replaced had not been set that way.

Also, I have seen people setting the gap on the hooked outside arm at a 'more or less' space of 5mm. Surely this has a precise setting?

This type of tensioner has no slot

    .. so now what?

It would seem logical that the inner wheel needs to be turned from one extremity to the other, (anti-clockwise) but doing that leaves the belt far too tight.

This is not the correct setting as leaves it too loose

Seems about right when it is set around 4.00 - 4.30

But I don't want to kill the motor
