I’m getting p0638 fault code and light on dash.
My throttle body is part number is
4E0145950H. I can get a new throttle body with same part number but last letter is C not H..
Would this be ok or do I need version H ?
The code refers to open circuit, what does this mean?
I cant get to garage for proper vcds scan for a while so have no more details.
The car drives perfectly well at the moment.
    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

    Mand

As a general rule the part numbers are backwards compatible but not forwards, you should try and find a part with the same letter suffix or higher

    Got another question.
To get the original part number I had to take my throttle body off.
Whilst it was still electrically connected but not in place I turned the ignition on an off without starting the engine and the flap didn’t move. Did the same again with engine fired up and flap didn’t move.
Should it have moved in both cases?

I thought it only opened with the accelerator moving. Have you thought about cleaning it?

I did clean it but it wasn’t that dirty for 138k miles.
I expected the flap to close when turning off, then spring back open.
Cars currently at my local indie garage
    Fingers it’s not too costly..

    Quick update.
My independent garage fitted a new throttle body (not purchased from Audi due to it being £450).
They confirmed it works but still getting an open circuit fault and car not running right.
Seems like the flap is being told to operate incorrectly. After 2 weeks they’ve not got to the bottom of it, and now say the dpf light is on as it’s knackered.
So I’ve put the original throttle body back and traded the A4 for a A6, as was looking to change cars soon.
See you in the A6 forum.

Your original fault code stated " open circuit " which could have been a faulty throttle body electrically, or a fault in the wiring between the ECU & throttle body.

As your garage has changed the throttle body that just leaves a wiring fault.

The ECU won't instigate a regen while the throttle body fault is present, so that also explains that problem.

Sorry for not being able to reply to your problem earlier.
