    hi folks,

I was about to replace all 4 tyres to the following (I have a staggered set up on my A6)

    Front: 245/35/20 Y95 Wheel is 8.5"
    Rear: 285/30/20 Y99 Wheel is 10"

but then I realised the load rating for the current front tyres are 97. (they are 255s)

    will 95 be too low?

According to my manual, my variant (235kw diesel saloon) has a max front axel weight 1305kg. Dividing by two gives 652.5kg. The load index 95 is 690kg, therefore I'm deducing that a Y95 front tyre will be OK on my car.

    Anyone disagree with my rationale?

I would disagree. You are looking at it from a stationary point of view. When you corner the weight is transferred to one side. When you accelerate and brake weight is transferred between front and back.
I would stick to what the minimum is recommended on the door sticker. Nothing wrong with going higher but never lower.
If you crash with the wrong rated tyres the insurance can refuse to pay out.

The door doesnt have a 245/35/R20 option. Nor a 285 becuase it's on a bigger wheel than stock

The staggered combination above gives less than 0.1% rolling circumference error. But frustratingly seem unable to get that 245 greater than Y95

I would be careful here, if you're fitting something not rated or approved for fitment its an automatic 'gimme' for the insurance company.

Does the staggered setup not mess with the abs and traction control?
    Standard setup is square.
I understand it’s a visual thing and possibly looks really good.
