Does anyone else have the electronically heated windscreen?

I think mine is now not working

When I press and hold the max windscreen defrost button which is meant to turn it on it flashes once - I am sure in previous winters it used to flash for some time not just once! The windscreen then seems to clear based on the airflow, not the heating. It clears from the bottom up whereas I am sure before you waited a few seconds and then the whole windscreen melted at once.

Can anyone remind me how their's works please - especially how the light on the max defrost (front windscreen) button flashes

Also, anyone have any idea which fuse controls this, incase it is just a case of a blown fuse. Ive looked in the handbook but can't ID the fuse

    Thanks

    Jon

    Hey John

Yeah it should "flash" when you hold the button down for a few seconds. Otherwise the heated windscreen works "automatically" in low temperatures

As for fuse, its slightly different, its actually connected to a large 100A fuse in front of the main car battery which is under the drivers footwell floor.. so its under the carpet between the battery and the pedals.. if that makes sense. Its a large wiring junction and there are 4 big old fuses under there which the heated windscreen module is connected to one of them (Fuse 2). Its not like a little mini blade fuse you can grab like most of the others.

    Ta

Thanks Andy - flash once (as mine is) or flash a few times?

Nah mate, should flash constantly (like once per second) when its kicked in... (at least, thats what mine does).

Easiest way to figure out if issue is to get it hooked up to diagnostics and see what its complaining about.

    It's booked into Audi!

They're also doing 3 recalls including the 'emissions' one ...... is this OK to have in your experience?

I would love to know how it operates too as there is no dedicated button for it and it is very not apparent when it is on/off... I heard that it comes on automatically when it is cold outside (a snowflake sign displayed on VC) and the AC is set to 22.5C or above..

To make things more complicated, I have a non-Audi screen fitted but it supposed to be the same specs with heat function (where there is an extra connector for heat funtion at bottom of the windscreen), also VCDS shows no faults found with Central Conv. and Heated Windshield Control Module is listed there...

Finally saw the heated windscreen working in action in the past few days, it will be auto switched on for defrosting and off after several minutes.. but can still be switched on by press and hold the front windshield defrost button until the light start to flash, so the conditions (outside cold and AC temp 22.5c +) do have to be met even for manually switching it on. You would be able to see it listed in the energy consumer list too when it is on.

Is this a standalone optional extra? Or part of a pack?
