    2003 Avant Estate B6.

The rear wiper stopped working about a year ago and, because I've already got the tailgate trim off the car to put a new latch on, I thought I'd have a look at the wiper motor.

According to the the car manual there is only one fuse so I am ruling that out as a problem (windscreen wipers work).

When the wiper ‘died’ it went ‘slowly’ and sometimes didn’t work and would sometimes start up after having been left on whilst driving so I’m guessing there is an electrical problem with the wiper motor controller?

Does anybody know if there are any serviceable or repairable parts in the rear wiper?

The electrical connector for the motor has four wires and I do have a multimeter but no idea on car wiring.

Any advice would be most gratefully received.

I suppose it is OK to wire the removed wiper motor direct to a car battery to see if it works?

They are renowned for failing, lubrication fails and they rub them selves to bits. I’ve replaced mine 3 times in 11 years. I found Valeo ones on amazon for half the price of genuine, last genuine I took off was Valeo with an extra Audi stamp so a no brainer. They used to make repair kits for the mk3 golf wiper but haven’t seen any for the “newer” wiper models.

It's a no brainer NOT to use French poo Valeo , EGR valves etc, as they are the ones that fail right across the VAG range .

    Bosch.

Ah I didn’t know Bosch made an identical one. My last genuine was Valeo so presumed they were the OEM for VAG.

The Valeo rear wiper motor used in the A3 8P and A4/A6 Avant must be the most laughable component ever fitted to a VAG product although the Octavia 1 uses a Valeo motor and I have never seen one fail because it does not have the stupid spindle water feed system. I have known new replacement units pour water from the casing the moment you try them.

I posted a poll about it on here but it hit stoney ground. I am actually surprised when I see an 8P with its rear wiper working or signs that it has been, not stuck up at 12 o'clock or hanging down over the tailgate.

So, in short, none of the replacement wiper units are any good?

Oh well, I’ll avoid getting one from a breakers and I shall buy the cheapest one I can find, then.
