Hi, I have recently purchased a 2004 Audi S4. Must say it’s a lovely car with a very nice spec, I do need a little bit of advise though as I’m very new to these motors, and Audi in general if I’m honest. I’ll apologise now to those of you who will think I’m swearing at this point, but I am a Citroen technician, and have actually always owned Vauxhall’s up untill now. My wife and I still do own Vauxhall’s at present, she has a 2010 Corsa VXR and I own a 2003 astra GSi which I have fully rebuilt and is running around 470bhp. I have bought the S4 to be my car to use, not so much as a daily, but a car that I can use when I need to as the GSi is a nightmare to drive being fully stripped and race spec ect ect. Enough of boring everyone to death about Vauxhall I need a little advice on the S4

I purchased this vehicle 3 weeks or so ago, I have since carried out a full service (using highest quality OE parts) I have replace all 8 coils packs with Bosch ones (as the ones fitted was a mix and match of the originals and Afternarket coils, I am very particular about things like that) I have also fitted a Milltek Non res cat back as it needed a little more noise!

To cut a long story short, I have noticed on idle more so when warm, it is not 100% smooth, it’s quite hard to explain, if I sit in the drivers seat, and feel the gear lever I can feel every few seconds a little fluctuation. It’s not a misfire as it purrs lovely, it’s like there is a little imbalance somewhere if you get what I mean? I’m thinking it may well be normal for one of these engines, but not knowing anything much about them I’m not 100% sure. I know all about the chain problems, this one is as quiet as a mouse, it rattles for about 1 seconds after being left for a week without being started which I am happy that it is ok and normal.

The other thing is I can’t seem to figure out how to work the trip on the screen in the centre of the instrument panel. It does not matter what buttons I press I can’t make it change from displaying the sat nav. I can make it scroll through the diagnostics (coolant/oil/battery faults ect) and I have reset the service light, but I can’t make it display a trip? Can someone please help??

Anyway, thanks to everyone who took time to read this post and thanks in advance to anyone with some advise for me!

    Caine
