This is on a 2013 Allroad with 3.0tdi so maybe different for other vag motors?
Look at the battery, see the negative terminal? and it has a very small connector fitted, unplug said connector and thats it job done.

I of course am not advocating doing this full time Greta might get upest but as a get you home trick or you want to fit a standard (non stop/start) and therefore much cheaper 019 battery this is the way to acheive it.

Just been told on facebook (where else!) that the little plug is how the car monitors the battery condition, so proceed at your own risk.
I will leave ours as is and report back after a few weeks.

... or just find someone with VCDS/OBD11 and change a single setting to "remember" the last state of the dash button. Job done & you're not harming anything else!

    First sticky #25 :

    25. Disable/memorize/invert Start & Stop
    [Select]
    [09-Cent. Elect.]
    [Security Access - 16] (enter security code - 20113)
    [Adaptation - 10]
    Select Channel 34 and Read
if you subtract 4 from the original value --> Start&Stop always disabled
if you add 32 to the original value --> memorize last status (the Start & Stop status at engine startup will be the one at last engine shutdown)
if you add 64 to the original value --> Start & Stop button light will be reversed: off if Start & Stop is disabled, and on if Start & Stop is enabled.
    Press Test then press Save

Well, tried that but the security code 20113 was "refused by controller".
    The car is a 2011 A3 2.0TDi 170 quattro.
My version of VCDS is a 2012 so quite old, but has previously worked well on this car.
    Any ideas ?
