My current C7 FL reaches 3 years old in 3 weeks time. It's been faultless, as have most of my Audis over the last 20 years. Audi emailed me this week to offer an extension to my std Audi warranty for another year. My car has done 30k, which TBH is much less than I usually do (my job changed not long after purchase).

Now I have the dilemma. In 20 years of Audi ownership, buying new every time, I have never extended my warranty.

Previously I did an average 80k miles over 3-1/2 years in each and then replaced them. The only single problem I have had was an EGR valve failure on a previous C6 at around 80k miles (and 5 years old, I kept that one a bit longer). I had been in the US for nearly a year and my car sat on my drive with a few short runs in the time I was away. I put the EGR valve failure down to that. It was fixed by Audi for £500.

My thinking is that my cars spending most of their life on the motorway has kept them trouble free.

As my job has changed, my car does mostly short runs, but a good blast to Leeds or Manchester once every 2 weeks (so 125 motorway miles, 2 days running every 2 weeks). I'm hoping this is enough to keep it healthy.

Audi have quoted £476 for all component cover for 1 year and 10k miles, with a £100 excess.

    What are your thoughts?

Think of it as an insurance policy, it's money you don't really want to spend, you hopefully will never need it, but if anything does go wrong you'll be very glad you've got it.

When I purchased my Skoda Superb in 2014 I took out the 5 year warranty which ran out in June, as it is a DSG and they cost a fortune if they go wrong I took the extended warranty through Skoda, all component cover, 15000 miles per year and £250 excess and that was £250... As said above, like all insurance, piece of mind and hop you never need it... but it is there if you do...

That does seem a lot of money though, may be correct being Audi compared to Skoda, but I think with £100 excess it was only about £300

That's exactly it. Personally I take the risk, will save £475 a year and if something goes pear shaped I accept it will cost me a bomb. Over the last 15 years or so it has worked for me, it may go wrong tomorrow. All down to how much you are willing to take risk / would rather pay the fee and have peace of mind.

Hi mine is now 4 years old, did the extended last year but decided not to going forward. Decided that the £435 they wanted would do better in the bank, only on 28k and if nothing major goes wrong the money will cover the gearbox service due in about a year with some left over. You read horror story's but in general the cars seam to last very well if serviced correctly. It's as said insurance if you do high mileage its probely worth considering.
