2.0TDI BMR Cut out not starting, injector fault codes.

Hello All,

I thought I would post my experience with my latest passat (2008 2.0TDI BMR PD)....

I've had the car a while but the other week it cutout and wouldn't restart, the AA came and readout the fault codes;
Status :P1263 - Unit injector, cylinder 2. Error Message : Signal improbable. Error sporadic.
Status :P1269 - Unit injector, cylinder 4. Error Message : Signal improbable. Error sporadic.

The AA guy suggested this was a problem with the injectors/loom. I decided to replace the loom and check all the injectors/glow plugs at the same time. I was relieved to find all injectors checks we're fine, 200kOhm across pins, no shorts to case. Not related but glow plugs all 0.2Ohm. It obviously had the injector recall (phew!), latest part numbers etc. But after reassembly still the same, not starting.

So after trawling on the internet I checked the in tank fuel pump and found that this was open circuit (two outer pins out of 5), a new pump and few cranks later all ok again! Incidentally the new pump was so noisy, I was convinced I would have to return it, however it went quiet after a short drive so maybe there was some air or it needed to settle in.

I'm presuming the fault codes were caused as the injectors ran out of fuel and misfires occured before finally cuting out....
