Car is 3.5years old, 48k miles.
Still with main dealer servicing . In for oil service and brake fluid change yesterday .
    Received the following advisory
"Noise coming from toothed belt area. Possibly cambelt tensioner. Requires further investigation"

    Anybody else had this?

They wanted to charge £60 to investigate.
Upon collection, I agreed to follow up later with another service booking.
The thing is, cambelts should be replaced 5years/100k miles so should I be worried?

Do I trust them to investigate or go to an independent VW specialist for hopefully a better cost outcome ?

Took car back into dealer for inspection.

Required a new cambelt and tensioner, as car is only 3.5yo and 50,000 miles, VW have paid the bill under warranty.
    Good news.
Glad I followed up with the main dealer
Whether there are others out there with dodgy belts, I think that's an expensive failure avoided

Its out of warranty, cos its over three years old.
Perhaps warranty is the wrong word, more goodwill. If its not due until 5years/100k, then maybe that's why they took it upon themselves to do it. At end of the day, the dealers'always happy to do work for VW.

    Hi everyone
My first post here. I've owned many VWs over the years and always been happy with them.

I have a 16-plate 2.0 diesel estate. Very similar to the post above, after its 50k service an advisory has been raised for 'noisy water pump'. They have quoted me £549 for new cambelt and pump (due next year).

I phoned a few local specialists, and they keep mentioning an electrically driven water pump? Seems very unusual although I gather that some cars have an auxiliary electric pump used for cooling when the engine is off.

Then I spotted this thread which makes me wonder if it is the tensioner?

Should I go back to VW and query this? The far is only 9 months out of warranty with FVWSH so maybe there is scope for a sympathetic claim....?

    Any advice much appreciated.

I would definitely push for a warranty / goodwill claim if its not offered. My dealer replaced the belt for free as described above, so if it's gone ahead of the normal maintenance interval then create a fuss. I reckon this must be a known issue, because they did mine for free which at the time i wasn't expecting.
