    Hi,

Has anyone used premium diesel or vpower or any of the other more expensive diesels? As I understand it they have various forms of engine cleaner in them. Apparently the additive is not to dissimilar to the fuel additives you can buy in motor factors. Would anyone recommend using either a specific brand of fuel or a particular additive on the 3.0 TDI/BiTDi? Has anyone seen any improvement in mpg or performance when using them?

    Thanks guys.

I used to put a tank of premium into my bitdi ever 3rd fill. Definitely seemed to give slightly more mpg but not enough to use all the time.

Bought a second hand bmw 535d a few years ago, an ex company car.
Very poor mpg until after a few months of using mainly Shell fuel (not vpower) ie branded fuel, mpg slowly rose to what woud be expected.
I mainly use supermarket brands now but always add additive (Millers).
Have used vpower in some cars but never really noticed any difference.
My suggestion would be to constantly use branded fuel or supermarket + additive.

I have driven my car the exact same route daily for the last 4.5 years and in that time have tried all the additives/posh fuels/2so etc etc and the mpg has never changed one smidgen.
Have tried it in other cars over the years and once again no difference to noise/power/mpg.

Mine seems to do best on Shell ordinair and strangely enough, Sainsbury's. Premium fuels appear to do nothing better.

I usually put in premium diesel every forth fill up. Remember reading somewhere that using premium diesel all the time is not good. Do seem to get slightly more miles out of a tank tho.

When it first came out late 80s my Fil who was bit of an experimenter gave it a trial in his might nissan sunny petrol, he did the sme route at the same time sof the day/night for decades and he tried the posh petrol for a few months which at the time was approx 10 percent more cost wise and whilst he got extra mpg it wasnt enough to cover the extra cost of the fuel.
Ho also said he rekconed it felt a bit more peppy to drive, but it was only a 1.3 litre engine and in them days your average everyday car was a bag of underpowered poo.
