Apologies if this was solved somewhere else but new to this forum and couldn't find it.

On my A6 avant 2.0 tdi (2008) I have the oil level light coming up since I had the car serviced last week. Oil level is fine and garage checked and says all should be fine. But why does the (yellow) oil level warning light come up? Any tips/advice/ideas?

    Thanks,
    Mark

I had this n an older c5 a6 it was the sensor in the sump. Replaced it with a new genuine sensor as the spurious sensors are rubbish.

Sorry, showing my level of numptiness here, needed to check where to find the engine code. It's BRE.

And I will ask the workshop to read fault codes, if any, and then see if the light disappears or not. Checked if the car can see if the bonnet is open but it shows on the dash if opened so assume it is not the bonnet open issue that I saw others suggest as a reason.

Engine and turbo is at great risk from poor engineering in the oil pump drive causing total oil pressure loss .

The two badly fitting components of balancer shaft and a 77mm hex key .

From this page: VAG group 2.0 TDI 140, 170 BHP engine guide which mentions 'The second problem is in the module itself, how it drives the oil pump, this is done by a small hexagon that also breaks because of the wear. VAG has tried to solve both issues, by replacing the chain by gears, that seems to be a working solution. They also upgraded the size of the hexagon so it should be stronger and it is, it’s now failing after more mileage. Still a very problematic issue that needs to be addressed. When failing the oil pressure drops immediately and the engine breaks beyond repair.'

As mentioned however, I'm no expert or car mechanic but apparently the last owner had that hexagon part replaced for a sturdier one?

You must find out precisely .

    The better one is longer 100mm Vs 77mm , but a 100mm doesn't fit where 77mm is OE .

100mm fits OE 100mm balancer shaft module or remanufactured modified balancer shaft #2 which is deeper to accept longer key .

    15mm contact length Vs 38-40mm !

Thanks, am now waiting for further details on what previous owner had done. He said the oil pump for the 2.0 tdi was replaced for a 1.9 one to avoid catastrophic failure of oil pressure. So, it might be this was done (VW and Audi TDI oil pump failure and balance shaft FAQ - YouTube) but he will now check with his mechanic.

Looking at one complete install video on youtube, it seems it now takes 4.5 litre oil? Might that be the reason of my low oil light? Standard would be 3.8 litre so I would have 0.7 litre less?

You are right, it would be good to know precisely what was done.
