Can anyone explain how I would go about removing the gps shark fin antenna? I have got 0 satellites issue and believe the antenna to be suspect. Would like to try replacing it with a proven working one but need to understand how to get mine out first. Does the headlining need to come out or am I able to access through the rear interior light?

    Much thanks

Hi, not able to help in how to remove the Fin but around a year ago there was someone who had similar problem and resolved it by installing a receiver under the top of the dashboard. A search may find it it appeared to work very well. Hope this info may assist.

You dont need to drop the complere head liner; Rear c pillar trims need to come off, Removing rear grab handles help, Possibly brake light on back screen too but not 100% sure as i dont have a saloon. Once these have been removed the head liner can be pulled down from its rear clips allowing you to contort your nimble body enough so that you can slide your arms in the gap and removed the fakra cables and the T30 iirc torx bolt and clamp.
Once this has been easily accomplished you can pull the aerial off the roof and inspect its poor design.
Remove the miniture torx screws and you can remove the outer painted cover and swap it to your new working one.
    Reassembly is reversal if removal.

    Any help with this?

Trying to find out why image is of poor quality, only a quarter of size of all previous images. Using same ipad and same screen capture results 25kb size, previous ones were around 100k...

Thanks for that, I was wondering if you were able to remove the painted cover or not. Going to give this a shot next week when my part arrives. Good replies though 👍🏻 Didn’t fancy putting a receiver under the dash

Painted cover can be replaced, if not damaged. Screws are some kind of self drilling and mates may be damaged.

So I did the job, pretty straight forward really. Couldn’t find a tool capable of releasing the clips that hold the grab handles in 🤬 so just went with the contortionist method!

Removed the rear interior light, popped the clips at the back of the headliner, then reached in and undid the bolt holding the fin to the car.

I know I make it sound simple, but once you figure out how much you can tease the headliner without creasing it, I just had to “work blind” so to speak and undo the bits.

All in all, 20min job once you familiarise yourself

    Hi,
What other functions does the shark fin have in addition to the GPS? So if the shark fin is replaced with separate GSM antenna in the dashboard, what should be done e.g. with the GSM antenna (which to my understanding is also in the shark fin)?

In addition, I found the following replacement shark fins (brand new) from Germany: https://www.ebay.de/itm/Antenne-Aut...094192?hash=item4afb43a4b0:g:wVMAAOSw9ZdXKGk b

However, I am not sure whether the connectors should be different.

Question: does anyone have a clear picture or other information on 1) how many wires there should be coming out from the fin and 2) what /connectors should there be to fit directly in the wires of the car?

Another option is of course to buy a genuine from the dealer, however they are charging EUR 250 for the part.

    Thanks.
