hi guys, i bought my a6 in july with a bad heater motor, i followed the normal practice of changing the fan and restistor pack at the same time, well today fan has packed up again. is there anything that can affect life of the resistor? anything i can do to see why the resistor pack should give up so quick?

Was it a new motor ?

If there is any binding on the motor bearings it puts the motoer under extra load.
The motor then draws more current & can burn out the resistor pack or electronic regulator.

hi Philip, yes it was all brand new. in fact i hooked up my old motor to a battery and than spun up ok, so i think the previous failure was down to the resistor pack also. i may just put an ammeter on it and see what it draws

Well finally i got a working copy of Vagcom and it looks like i was looking at the wrong thing it pulled up two faults 02071 Local Databus 012 electrical fault on circuit and 00256 A/C pressure/Temp Sensor (G395) 002 lower Limit Exceeded so i am assuming it is the pressure sensor at fault! ho hum hope it is not raining at weekend then i can get bumper off

no rain today so bumper off A/C pressure sensor changed and all good again. bumper not easiest thing in the world to get off and at some point in the past drivers side grill bolt has snapped off in the nut, gave it a good soaking of wd and will try to turn it out tomorrow... not liking the plastic arm its mounted in tho! lots of little niggly projects being found but helps while away winter evenings!
