    Hi guys
I’ve got a 2014 A7 and on a couple of occasions lately the drivers side rear window has lowered by itself , done it a few times, usually only about 2 inches but then when I put it back up it’ll come down again either same or has gone to halfway, it’ll seem to do it a couple of times then stay up but doesn’t do it every time I use the car, anybody got any ideas? Checked to make sure nothing is stuck to the door seal and can’t see anything out of place

My 2009 A6 rear drivers side window used to get stuck occasionally when I was closing it which would cause it to think there was something trapped in the window and re-open a couple of inches.

It never opened spontaneously though, it only happened when I had opened it and was then trying to close it again.

I had this on a Z4 coupe, turned out to be the window lift sensor, acting like something was blocking the window from closing then dropping the window a couple of inches, £50 sensor later and no more problems

Does it sound a bit strained when lifting? One of ours had a damaged / frayed wire cable which I think the sensors interpreted as a blockage on the actual window, so it misbehaved. As I went onto the M3 one day and closed windows for higher speed driving there was a big "crack" sound as part of the overloaded mechanism finally failed and the window promptly fell into the door. Bit breezy for 20 miles, but a window lifter repair kit sorted it out.
