That doesn't show whether it's the left or the right side.

Anyway, if you only changed one side, how about measuring and comparing one side with the other?

From my limited info at home at I get the genuine numbers to be front left as 8D0 407 271 DL and front right as 8D0 407 272 AQ which can be used to convert to alternative manufacturers numbers AS LONG as these companies have got it right, often they don’t. I only trust LÖBRO/GKN

    8D0 407 271 AQ a LÖBRO 301219

    8D0 407 272 AQ a LÖBRO 301222

That's brilliant thanks I've order the right part now it is 617mm

Also would you know if the lower control arms change in length also mainly the one that connects to the droplink and suspension leg as mine looks to long or are the uprights from a 98 and 99 upright different in height or length where the lower arms connects to the upright hub where the ball joints go in as I've noticed my droplink is sitting at a angle by about 15mm instead off straight? So that's popped the Bush out the link or what can cause that please

Now find an issue with the drop link mine measures 90mm which is for drivers side. I've read online I need the 80mm version for passenger side hence why it sits incorrectly and fails would you know the correct part number /model as there's so many online and they don't list the correct specs /sizes

    Thanks

The "wishbone link" as it is known, the one the strut picks up from, is responsible for the track and was the same from 95>2001 when it changed for the 8E model so as long as what you have is equivalent to 4D0 407 151 P, there should not be a problem.

The drop links are 8D0 411 317 D left with a blue paint mark and 8D0 411 318 D in yellow, both are 90-mm, I would use the Febi pro kits 19704 and 19702

Okay that's brilliant info thanks finally getting closer to putting it back on the road unfortunately I'm still waiting on the driveshaft and recovery is slow but I did manage to take apart the old driveshaft that broke to find out what happened or the cause, and I'm definitely stumped on this one what cause this damage /snapped never seen anything like it.

Are you sure it was pushed in all the way so that the circlip engaged properly?

It looks as though all the torque was being carried by the splines between the circlip goove and the end of the shaft.

I've no idea I was only doing around 10mpg out off a roundabout when it happened.

The bolt that holds it to the hub was pretty dam tight to remove so must off been torqued up correctly

But strangely the code of the driveshaft reads 8d0 407 271 AQ
