If not it’s still a ZF, and presumably serviced in exactly the same way? Same goes for Bentleys, RangeRovers etc..

They are the same family, just ratios are different. Why did you mention the RS6?
You need to add BMW to the list, they use the exact same boxes, but different software.

Although I love the idea of a maintenance free box, I can't help but think that filters need cleaning and ool needs draining

Because the RS6 will be serviced by Audi, given they could follow the same procedure and charge BiTdi owners I am just surprised they don’t say it’s optional.

Is not preventative maintenance rather like an insurance policy. One spends £500 quid doing an oil change rather than risk spending £7,000 on a new gearbox by ignoring the oil change.

An independent garage over 100 miles from me (so he's hardly likely to get my business) advised me to change all the fluids - gearbox and all the differential oils every 50,000 miles. Now I know that might mean every 18 months for some hard-commuting folk, but is not a lot considered in £/mile.

Yep that’s PPM, planned preventative maintenance, to save downtime and cost later in time. Doing on failure would be referred to as reactive maintenance, typically incurring greater downtime and cost.

Like we have sticky threads for VCDS tricks, per engine and model it would be good to have a schedule of maintenance based on real usage... vs the manufacturers service manual. I suppose the problem being how much PPM we do, one persons failure won’t equal another’s.

Specifically the ZF service, with people reporting a night and day difference, and significant cost of complete failure as you point out, it’s one that makes me anxious!

Perhaps during lockdown a good time to negotiate a deal? Presuming many garages have less trade.
