Hi. When I pressed the boot swivel opener today it made a whirring motor noise. The boot doesn't now lock or stay closed. When I press the boot opener the motor makes a whirring noise.

I have seen how to remove the plastic boot cover - so I'm ok with that bit. Does it sound like the motor is shot or maybe something else? There is nothing fouling the closure of the hatch and the body catch doesn't seem to have moved. All seems as before when it worked other than the catch isn't closing so the boot isn't locking.

All ideas would be great please. I'll be using a piece of rope to tie the hatch door to the back seats in the meantime!

I have removed the plastic cover. I have also had a play with the locking mechanism. It is quite hard to get the locking bar to lock in stay place / stay engaged when I push it up. It is possible to do it, but it's by now means easy.

I'm assuming that it should be possible to press the bar up and it would click in place each time? Mine does it about once every half dozen or more attempts.

My guess is therefore that this is the cause of the problem. Either something inside the locking mechanism is worn or maybe broken perhaps. I'm unsure as to why this would cause the motor to keep trying to engage when the 'Seat' swivel is pressed to 'open' - unless the motor thinks that the locking bar is across (when it isn't) and the motor keeps trying to disengage it perhaps. I'd value any advice - it would seem like a new locking mechanism is the way to go - £12 or thereabouts from ebay. Does this sound like the cause of the problem and solution to it? cheers

To update. I tried to use my rear wipers - they aren't working. They were fine previously. Does anyone know whether the 2 issues are connected? thanks again
