    Hi

I have a problem and can’t find another thread with the same issue so apologies if this is duplicated.

This morning my Discovery stereo has had a hissy fit - I drove a short distance to drop my son off at school and noticed I couldn’t turn the stereo up from the normal start volume. Got out the car, locked it then came back and now the stereo won’t work at all - the display is all there but it’s stuck on one station (that it won’t play), the preset ‘buttons’ recognise I am pressing them but don’t do anything at all, the steering wheel volume button and stereo volume button both show a visual response but of course there is nothing actually playing. It’s the same on ‘radio’ and ‘media’ when I try to play a CD.

Everything else works as it should, nav, phone, car settings etc. Not tried a iPhone through Bluetooth (my wife’s has music on mine doesn’t) but suspect it will be the same as other ‘media’

I am aware these systems can sometimes throw a wobbly but wondering if anyone has any possible fixes without tools, otherwise it’ll get booked into VW. Going on holiday tonight with a nice long drive so Mrs FB better be in the mood for a chat!

    Thanks in advance!

My bet is they'll tell you they've applied a software update and to see what happens. I had a bizarre problem on my B7 where just occasionally the stereo wouldn't power up when you started the car - no amount of button pressing etc. would persuade it into life. Then after 20-30 minutes of driving it would just switch itself on out of the blue. I mentioned it when it went in for a service, and when I collected they said "We've updated the software, see what happens". It never did it again but I'm not at all convinced that wasn't just a coincidence.

    Thanks Mike

I can almost hear the dealer saying exactly the same thing!

I forgot to mention that about 30 seconds from work the CD suddenly started playing, I then tried to change it to radio and it went back to being ‘dead’ for both of them so I am expecting it to blow into service as you say then exit stage-right at will!

As if by magic everything is working exactly as it should this afternoon!

    May be a one-off...
