A good afternoon to everyone on the forum. I thought I’d join up as it looks like there’s a goldmine of useful information here and I’ve got plenty to think about now I’ve got myself a luuuuuvley ‘59 plate Golf gti. It’s in Pearl black and a 3 door, with the 18’s on it (mk5 style ones) and came with a refreshed lighting all round of the R type led rears and projector-style-with-drl fronts. It’s also been treated to a stage 2 Revo set up which gives it phenomenal power delivery!

I unfortunately had my *ahem* Focus ST written off after 8 years but prior to that I’d spent the previous 15 years in Golfs. I went from a ‘90 plate Mk2 8v gti to a Mk1 ‘84 gti (in lovely Lhasa green), then went for a ‘97 3 door 16v gti before having about 10 years in my amazing 3 door black magic VR6 highline.

Getting back in a VW feels great and despite the new cars’ year and miles (80000), it’s like new all round and feels super solid and tight. But seems things have moved on since my last Golf and I’m reading a lot about ‘coding’. The headlights on mine are an aftermarket brand (?) and I would love the oem version xenons but it sounds like an utter mine field. So I’ve been reading up on numerous sites about how easy it is to screw up your car with new parts and wrong coding. Something I’ll learn about no doubt..., but not by screwing up my new Golf!
Well, cheers All and have a happy Wednesday!
    Dan.

Nice car. I’m pretty sure that that age of car doesn’t have component protection but the guys in the golf section will keep you right.

Some of the electronics are linked to the car and have to be recoded if they are put into another car. It’s supposed to stop car theft for parts. It means that it’s not easy to upgrade the infotainment system or get second hand ECUs or electronic controllers etc without someone to recode the parts.
