I think you need more than a switch for auto lights.
You might need the light sensor and a new windscreen.

I too have been considering this upgrade. In combination with the Coming Home/Leaving Home feature.

From what I can understand, there are a couple of must haves, to make this retrofit easier. You need to have a highline dashboard/wiring system on the car. The highline uses thin wires to connect to the existing headlight switch. By all accounts, simply unplugging the headlight switch, on a highline dash car causes the headlights to switch on. From what I read, having full DIS also indicates having a highline dash.

Then you need a rear view mirror with the light sensor in it. There are 2 versions in Europe from what I can find. One which includes a push button on the mirror which says "Auto" and then one which does not have the button. The one with the button, also I think (not confirmed) has the ability to be connected to a new windscreen with the rain sensor in it. It does not appear necessary to replace the windscreen to have the auto light feature, as the lux sensor is in the back of the rear view mirror, which just touches the glass. So by adding the auto dimming rear view mirror, plus the auto light switch, is the requirements.

There is also talk about changing out the conv module, to a version ending in an F. When I VCDS scanned my car, 2007 S Line, it had a module ending in N. There is no mention of a N module, so I'm unsure if this module supports it or not. If you change this module, I think you need to run a learn process for the new module in VCDS.

Then you need a wiring loom, there was one site I saw a good write up (below), but his explanation of the loom required was not very clear, especially in terms of wiring lengths. Ultimately, you create a loom which goes between the rear view mirror, the light switch and the conv module. Plus an ground connection.

Finally there is some changes using VCDS, to let the car know it has the mirror, and also if you chose to add the coming home/leaving home function.

So it requires some parts, and some time and patience. I'm looking to do this one soon on a 2007 car, after I've completed the folding mirror retrofit.

I'd certainly be interested in how you get on, or share some ideas.

The best write up I've found is on another website by someone in Norway, but it was a couple of years ago.
