I need a little help guys, my old 2006/56 A6 3.0 Quattro Avant went to my Mate 6 months ago, he and cars don't mix!!
Anyway he called last week said the MMi screen has gone dead, no nav no AMI no Radio. He says it started to go on n off a few days ago after a speed bump. So i did a quick scan with VCDS and it shows all media systems unable to connect 1100 or 0011 (have a copy on my laptop but not with it rite now) so i did an optical scan, again everything is down, optical and electrical sides all say error. I dropped the glovebox as i had fitted the AMI years ago, and thought the splitter loom may be at fault. But no, i tried just the CD, that powered up, but not responding on VCDS tried the AMI separately with splitter removed, that still showed no connection on vcds, so a quick google pointed to failed 07 Control head, i have a spare, but it was one i brought to retro fit a review camera, that should come on but would no doubt be in CP mode. But still nothing, everything on the optical system is down. The kit in the boot was covered over with plastic by me when i 1st got the car as so many stories of the rear wiper pipe wreaking everything.
I have checked both front fuse boxes each side and the rear boot fuses, the fibre optic glows red on one side so seems to be transmitting. So what next? What would be the next logical step to take? Has anyone else experienced this?
    Cheers all.

The control head is the diagnostic gateway for the the MOST bus hardware so if that is not working then its why all the hardware is showing failed electrics/optical. Have you checked the voltage going to the control head. Also a full VCDS scan could help here.

Yeah not convinced it is the control head, as mentioned i swapped it out n no change still all the optical bus down, on a scan it said that no system could be reached media/nav wise. The optical scan shows everything down, error on electronic and optical, i did copy the scan but didn’t have time to upload it yesterday.
