    Long update and continued issue!#
The replacement sensor cleared the fault code but we could not regen the DPF, various scans and a DPF clean plus driving up and down it all sorted, out of limp, DPF cleaned. Ran fine for 1000 miles or so.
Then the glow plug light popped on, then the MIL one then the DPF one!! not in limp but obviously not happy again.
Scanning seemed to indicate square one...temp sensor 1 bank 1 again . got another on warranty, fitted, fault code clear and drove it to regen the DPF...all worked lights all out!! woohoo.
So about 300 miles later glow plug and MIL light come on again............sensor 1 bank 1 again!
It is a pattern part.....is there a known issue with these? could the car ECU be rejecting the sensor soon after fitting and accepting it?...think you will know what I mean.

I have seen a previous post re this issue with repeated failures of this sensor.

In that case it was a slight leak of the head gasket.

The superheated steam generated in combustion was destroying the sensor.

Is your engine using any coolant ?

No use of coolant, never ever needed topping up in use. Clean pink coolant, and no signs of issues with head gasket thanks for input.
I wonder if it could just be a crap sensor supply??

As far as I know these are 2 wire sensors ( Just 2 connections in the plug ) so are either resistive, where the resistance changes with temperature, or they give out a small voltage which varies with temperature.

So they wouldn't rely on a supply voltage from the ECU.

I would try a genuine VW replacement which I think comes with a 2 year warranty.
