    Hello all,
Warning lights have just recently started being lit in my Passat, 1,9TDI. It happened while towing a trailor, so I have been wondering if it could have some connection, but maybe not. The “ABS” warning light and the “ESP” warning light lights up shortly after starting a drive. The “pre start glow light” also starts blinking and the text “MOTORSTÖRG. WERKSTATT!” (Engine fault, go to a garage) appears shortly in the display.
Does anybody have any idea what these warnings could be? Faulty ABS sensor?

I like to do as much as possible myself on this old vehicle. So I purchased a diagnostic instrument, so that it could hopefully narrow down the fault for me e.g. tell me which abs speed sensor is faulty or whatever. So I bought an “iCarsoft i908” for Audi/VW/Seat/Skoda hoping it would give me some valuable fault codes. But no It connects fine with the vehicle, seems to scan like it should, and then displays: “ The vehicle has no fault codes”….
Anybody who has used similar diagnostic instruments with or without success and who could give me some hints why this instrument is not coming up with the fault codes?

I will be very appreciative of any help with this 😊

So if you select the ABS, there are no codes stored?

Hello Crasher, thanks for your interest!
I have tried choosing: "VW", "Vehicle scan" (total scan) and I have tried choosing "Control Modules" and "Brake electronics" (I could not find any specific ABS chose). With these two methods I get the "error messages" shown in the pictures below..
Point 3 and 4 I can confirm, but I don`t understand what they mean with point 1 and 2... Anybody who could shed some light??

At least I have now found the reason for all the three warning lights: The 10amp fuse for "Brake light bulb failure".... I found the fuse to be gone, changed it and now the warning lights for "ABS", "ESP" and blinking "pre-GLOW" and the text “MOTORSTÖRG. WERKSTATT!” (Engine fault, go to a garage) have all disappeared...
Is this logical??? Why the hell should these warnings lights warning for completely different things come on??

I have not yet tried the diagnostic instrument again to see if the broken fuse for the brake lights also could have been the culprit for the communication failure of the diagnostic instrument as well, .. You never know..

I suppose this fuse got overpowered somehow when plugging in the socket for the trailer lights...
