Friends, got a tricky one with a Golf IV TDI 115 1J1 from 2001.

Left it standing for a year without starting it and when I reconnected the battery, the locked key symbol came up. No way to start it.
Then it said 'Airbag malfunction', Car locked and on top no electrical windows...
The car starts for 3s but then stops due to the active immobilizer.

Now I found that strange and pulled out my W7 with VCDS on it and gave it a try with autoscan.
As a result, every component in the car (AC, ABS, Engine, Airbags etc.) comes back with all possible errors listed as 'Faulty - Intermittent'.
Never had something like this on my good old Golf IV but it's stranded and I wonder where this issue is located.

Have a look at the VCDS autoscan report below. Every possible component comes back as faulty. There's something central that is bugging or dead.
    Suggestions & ideas welcome.

I would do the basics first, make sure all main fuses haven’t corroded and that your earths are all intact and not dead, grab a mutimeter and check that your main rays have clicked to on and are powering all the modules correctly, also check the ecu isn’t sat in water if the plenum chambers have filled with leaves. My guess is the ECU either has a bad earth or it’s buggered. Presume you’ve tried clearing all the faults and done live metering on the core sensors?

Hey thanks for looking into that. Was away for a couple of days and got right back to the car this afternoon.

All fuses are ok (checked these actually before using the VAGCOM) and the car is dry (no leaves or humidity). I checked all connectors, disconnected & reconnected, battery is fully charged.
I've cleared all error messages and only the immobilizer remains now listed and active. Airbag error message is gone too.
Could it be that the ECU simply desynchronized with both keys ? Car keeps starting like a charm and dies 2 secs after as the immobilizer kills the engine.
I could maybe try to pair again the keys but I've never done that before and I believe I need also the login code that is specific to each ECU.

I could also unmount the ECU first and check its condition.Maybe have a look at the electronic board. I've read that it happens that age actually leads to porous or broken solderings and that redoing these solved the issue.

Pretty sure if you don’t have the plastic tag with the immobiliser code you have to use the proper VW VPN to get it synchronised. Could try a re-sync but if it were me I’d just get one off a scrapper and get it all coded to save repeat problems unless you’re a dab hand at soldering!
