    Hi,
am having to change car due to upcoming ULEZ in London.
An option I am looking at is a used (2018) Passat estate Business edition 1.4 tsi 125 ps, as there are quite a few available at a reasonable price, with good specs.
Main question is over the power of the engine - it seems to get reasonable reviews but is it enough for a 2000kg car?
    Main uses:
    - No commuting
most usage with 2 people (and loads of camping equipment), although sometimes 4 people + equipment
Most driving will be journeys > 50 miles, with a mix of motorways, A roads, but also in hilly / mountainous areas
and we'll probably only do about 6 - 7k miles per year

    Any feedback very welcome
    thanks in advance

I’d expect it to be fine, although it won’t win any traffic light Grand Prix’s!

The 1.4TSi has 147lb/ft of torque from 1400-4000rpm which for driving in hilly areas and moving camping gear around is the important bit really. It is only 2000kg if fully loaded, it’s rarely going to weigh that much but even so that’s 61bhp per ton - when I’m towing we are at 45bhp/ton and it’s fine.

You have to thrash them to make them go and then they drink fuel, these downsized engines are almost as a stupid an idea as electric cars.

Yet I’ve driven a few 1.4TSi’s as courtesy cars and even if the trip computer is over optimistic they still get over 40mpg.
