    Hi All,

I decided I would replace my own brake pads as I have done se successfully before on other cars. This is the first time I have had to deal with an electric parking brake....and I don't have a VCDS or anything. I followed some instructions to open the EPB motor housing and then manually rewind the EPB piston. That worked fine on the right. When I got to the left, one of the two T30 bolts was seized. Tried WD40, various keys and finally an impact driver....to no avail. The head was stripped. It does not help that they make these bolts with a very shallow recess which makes it difficult to get a good grip - especially at the odd angles you have to work at. I then tried a screw extractor...didn't work...and finally had to resprt to driling out the head. This allowed me to open the housing, rewind the piston. There is about 2mm of the screw protruding from the brake housing and that does not seem to offer enough purchase to remove the bolt with a pliers or visegrips. I reassembled the caliper and brakes with only one retaining bolt on place on the EPB motor.

I now have to get someone to remove the oldscrew or else I have to replace the whole housing...what say ye ?

You have tried all the normal methods. With little screw left to get a hold of, removal of the housing and drilling/re-tapping or a new housing is the only way out.
