    any help all?
had this problem for a long time now ( so bad you cant use car ) it starts, you could take it round the block but you cant use it! ( because you feel its gonna die, smokey and smelly )
basically had new injectors new internal loom all timing checked.
a diagnostic said from one person all 4 injector values jumping around! then another attempt had minus values on first 2 inj then plus values on 3,4 but with a error implausable reading inj 1!
fully verified all wiring in good order all the way back to ecu plugs. tried another ecu exactly same!

So this is a BKD engine maybe, but sounds like a typical BMN to me. Where did these “new” injectors come from?

Hi , well yes secondhand but assured working. eitherway the car ran exactly the same so sort of ruled them out . also sent the injectors away for testing that came out and tested ok. incidentally the injectors were the latter type done under recall by vw in 2011 iirc.

So this is a 170PS BMN engine, let me guess, the DPF has been removed and it has been remapped plus the exhaust fumes are so bad it makes your eyes water?

That statement would be spot on. however to clarify, the map was done 12mths+ ago, it was smokey a bit on boost but always drove well and sprightly. it is only now its lumpy the fumes are chokey outside , driving now produces intermittent bursts where an onlooker would think ohhh thats got an engine problem.

The only thing it can be is a (or more) faulty injector, almost every BMN I come across is in this state and most get scrapped or sold on, a bit of a disastrous engine and the odd thing is the closely related (admittedly rare) BMM does not seem to suffer the same problem.

I think it is the injectors are just not upto the job and they were heavily. I have done a few BMN's where I have fitted a set of new genuine injectors and it transforms them but few people are prepared to put £2k into one now.

Good guess, how many times have you wrote this lol

On a seperate note, ive seen a few BMNs that have had the recall injectors fitted than provide no VCDS reading on injector spec. Any ideas why this is and is it possible to get around?

That sounds like an ECU software issue BUT to be frank and totally honest I feel the BMN/BMM engines and their cars are dead lame ducks and not worth persevering with unless you know full well you will never have to enter a T Zone. Even an as new BMN will be in July 2020 charged £50 A DAY to enter the Birmingham T Zone, a punitive charge even the UK’s most fervent compression ignition engine hater (basically me!!!) could have even dreamt to hit people with, there are some serious nutters out there and many are in positions of power... God help us all and protect us from Socialism.
