I've had my approved used 2017 A1 for about 21 months. It's done about 8K miles total. I had a call yesterday from my Audi dealer who said they "needed" to book me in for a service. I'd been expecting a call because the Oil & Insp warning has been on my dash for a while. I couldn't believe what they quoted - £360, for oil, inspection and new pollen filter. When I refused, they haggled a bit (asked what I was prepared to pay!) and came down to £320. I still declined.

    So, my questions are:

Does that sound a reasonable price to pay for such a minimal service?

Do I really need my oil checked/changed at 8K miles?

What could I expect to pay at an independent garage?

How do I get rid of the annoying messages and beep on the dash (I've had a look, but seems like the key combo doesn't work on the later models)?

Any recommendations for a garage in South Wales, East of Cardiff?

    Thanks.

easy answer as to cost - NO
need oil change - probably YES
very good independent garage cost - around £55 an hour plus parts - thats nottingham
why would you ignore oil and inspection warnings on a relatively new car?
as for garages in South Wales look on all the vag forums or use google and go and see what you think are the best garages - there are lots out there - the add one will be excellent with many in the file 13 category

    Thanks for that.

Why would I ignore oil/inspection warnings? Because clearly, they're based on the age of the car and to get you to pay extortiante prices at your Audi dealer for minimal work. It appeared exactly on the 2 year anniversary of the car and had been counting down for maybe a month or so beforehand. So clearly, it's nothing to do with mileage, or some on board analysis of the quality of the oil, and is a reminder rather than a warning. If I hadn't drivern the car for a month, I'm guessing it would still have come up with the reminder.

As your car is 2 years old its probably due an inspection service which is the major one. As its presumably still under manufactures warranty it may be best to stick with Audi.
