    Hi All

my B7 convertible has a problem with the roof.it has an intermittent problem in that every now and then the roof won't go up. If I put it up manually it then works fine for a couple of goes then it stays stuck open again. It doesn't move a bit and stop as I've seen on other posts it just doesn't move at all.
any ideas what I should check ? When it does work everything goes perfectly.

    any help much appreciated.

    cheers

    vin

Pump or position sensor but pump normally makes the header rail jump up and then do bugger all else.

    Hi Crasher

I read the codes that are as follows

    02000 - switch position
    008 - implausible signal

01986 - convertible top frame position sensor (G356)
    008- implausible signal

does that help diagnose it ?

Should i I change them both or do one of them first ?

    cheers

Manually fold and lock down the roof and see if it will automatically go back up, I have had that code with a failed pump, the key clue is the roof jumping away from the header rail and doing nothing else except closing and locking again.

    Hi Crasher

it isn't behaving like that. It goes up and down a couple of times all working perfectly. Then it will open perfectly but will stay stuck in the open position. The light in the dash comes on when you press the button to shut the roof but nothing happens. If I then shut it manually it will work fine again for a few times until it gets stuck fully open again

    cheers

In that case a fault code read to see what is wrong, be wary of these systems, I have seen people cause terrible damage to them using VCDS output tests and getting the system throughly confused so it works against itself.

hi Crasher can I do that on my vcds? I don’t want to change any settings. As it works fine the majority of the time.

    cheers

You manually fold the roof using the emergency procedure so key out of the dash, pump valve open, release header rail, fold and lock down the deck with the emergency key up inside the rear armrest opening.
